My son Shane 29, was an amazing, caring person who came from a loving home. Had a daughter at the time of his passing.   He was clean 2.5 years.   He got kidney stones and wound up at the Emergency room where he was prescribed opioids.  After seeking more he came across the local drug dealer and was sold Heroin or what he thought was Heroin.   He died that day from Fentanyl intoxication.  He never knew what hit him.  He had a tissue in his hand that did not make it to his bleeding nose.  That is how we found him.  Devastating to find my child in that manner 16 hours after his death.  The next three years were a roller coaster.  The dealer was charged with Strict Liability Drug Induced Death. We fought to prosecute the dealer after the detectives got into his phone after his death the ball got rolling.  Then Covid hit and it was 2 years of postponed and zoom court hearings.   In 2022 he took a plea deal of 10 years which he is serving 85 percent which is 8.5  years.  He has been in jail since my son died in 2019 so he gets time served.  He will be released in March of 2028.  It is not enough and it was a difficult case to prosecute.  If it wasn’t for his phone nothing would have been done.   I am just grateful he is off the street and not killing anyone else.  I miss my son so much.  My husband and myself have bad PTSD.  Laws need to change!! So many do not get justice and they deserve it.
